Hallam takes its name from the Hallam family — among the early European settlers in the district — and developed as an established residential and light industrial suburb in the decades following the formation of the City of Berwick in 1973. The suburb adjoins the Princes Freeway and South Gippsland Highway interchange, giving it strong freight and logistics connectivity alongside its residential character. Hallam railway station is on the Pakenham/Cranbourne line. The City of Casey was formed on 15 December 1994 by merging most of the City of Berwick with parts of the Shire of Cranbourne, and is named after Lord Richard Gavin Gardiner Casey, the 16th Governor-General of Australia, who with Lady Maie Casey lived on the property “Edrington” in Berwick.
